Why is adult coloring so popular?
Over the past year I've noticed that adult coloring books have become a popular trend. Some people are negative about it, saying that it's a worth of time because there's so many other things you could be doing. That's a little true, though coloring is a hobby.
It's ok to have a hobby. Sometimes people just need to take a break from life and to just relax and unwind a little bit.
Coloring is good for that.
Coloring is a good stress reliever. It's something that adults like to do when they just need a break. It's not a complete escape from reality. It's just a time to relax. It's a time where simple decisions can be made, such as what page to color next, or what color to choose from.
There are several types of coloring books to choose from. You can choose one based on your mood. If you're feeling stressed, there are coloring books for that. There are calming coloring books. There are some called Color Me Stress free, and Color Me Happy. Joanna Bashford books are also very popular, but they have fine details and they usually aren't for beginners, unless you want to really challenge yourself by the fine details.
Joanne Fink is one of my favorite adult coloring book artists. My favorite coloring book by her is the Flower one, though I recently bought her inspiration coloring books.
Bible verse coloring books are also becoming popular now too.
I’m part of an adult coloring group on Facebook called Adult Coloring Worldwide. It’s a huge group, and people are always posting either pictures they colored, or discussion questions.
Several people in the group seem like they are experts at coloring. Their pictures are always beautiful, though everybody tries to remind beginner’s not to get discouraged by their coloring.
One person asks how others color.
Several people responded, though a few allowed their quotes to be posted here. “I just like to color,” Cheryl Mansfield says. “I don't worry about blending etc. Only been coloring for a couple weeks and it's just for fun for me. I have fibromyalgia so it's sometimes difficult with my hands but I enjoy it.”
E. D. Trimm is another member of the Facebook group. “I gave up trying to be artistic and just color and admire the beautiful pictures the artists do. You and I can sit in the kindergarten section and color outside the lines.”
Coloring should be about having fun and coloring for yourself, not competing with anybody.
Angela Barton points this out as well. “It's purely for your enjoyment.”
Unlike some hobbies, you don’t need to break the bank for coloring.
Coloring books can be found at Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, Books-A-Million, Barnes and Noble, or Amazon. There are several cheap ones as well.
You also don’t need to buy expensive colored pencils to have beautiful results. I have found that crayola twistable colored pencils work just fine.
I’m addicted to gel pens. Right now my favorites are the 36 count gel pens from Office Depot, and Fiskars gel pens from Amazon. Though I have several more.
If you are looking for a hobby where you don't have to break the bank, try adult coloring! Just pick your favorite medium (gel pens, markers, crayons, etc.), relax and be yourself! Don't try to compete with anybody else.
The picture above is actually one of my favorite pictures I've colored so far because I used all glitter gel pens.

I've tried fixing the spacing issues in this article all week, and I think I got most of them taken care of...I think this is as good as the format is going to get, so I'm going to leave it alone now.
